Building calmer workflows with Focusflow

An open-source productivity app designed to protect focus, make progress visible, and keep planning humane.

Work should feel quieter

Focusflow is an open-source planner for people who want structure without turning their day into a dashboard. It brings tasks, focus sessions, and lightweight progress notes into one deliberately calm workspace.

What the project does

The app helps you choose a small set of priorities, protect time for deep work, and close the loop with a short end-of-day reflection. Everything is designed to reduce switching rather than add another stream of notifications.

The stack

Focusflow uses Next.js and TypeScript for the application, PostgreSQL for durable data, and a small set of server-side jobs for reminders and daily summaries.

Key ideas

  • A daily plan that stays intentionally small
  • Focus sessions connected to meaningful work
  • Progress notes that are useful without becoming a diary
  • Local-first interaction patterns with durable synchronization

Why this exists

Most productivity tools reward collecting work. Focusflow is an experiment in helping people finish it—with less noise along the way.
